Karl Hennig (theologian)

Christian Julius Karl Hennig (born June 4, 1903 in Zwickau ; † July 8, 1992 in Stolberg (Rhineland) ) was a Protestant theologian .

Life

Hennig was born in Zwickau in 1903 as the son of a senior teacher. He attended the St. Thomas School in Leipzig until 1922 . He then studied theology , philosophy , German and history at the University of Leipzig and the University of Cologne . He passed his exams in Leipzig and Dresden and was qualified to teach in higher schools.

In 1929 he was at the University of Leipzig with The Saxon Awakening Movement at the beginning of the 19th century for Dr. phil. and (with Horst Stephan , whose daughter he later married) with On the religious interpretation of truth. The overcoming of the static concept of truth in philosophy through the dynamic one in the Protestant doctrine of the Lic. Theol. PhD .

From 1930 to 1931 he studied at the Theological Seminary in Hartford , Connecticut ( USA ) and officiated at the local Holy Trinity Church . Here he obtained the Master of Sacred Theology (STM). Then he became a religion teacher in Leipzig. Because of the political situation in Germany, he went to the German Evangelical Congregation in Antwerp as a pastor in 1934 . In 1938 he became a pastor in the parishes of Eupen , Malmedy and St. Vith , which belonged to the Union des Églises Évangeliques Protestantes en Belgique , a predecessor of the United Protestant Church of Belgium . There he also officiated as pastor at the Elsenborn military training area . Expelled from Belgium in the summer of 1945, he became pastor in Stolberg in the Rhineland in 1946. In 1968 he retired.

In 1961, on the occasion of Paul Tillich's 75th birthday, Hennig published his commemorative publication Der Tension .
