Karl Herman Kiffe

Karl Herman reefs (* 6. July 1927 in Los Angeles , † 10. May 2004 in Las Vegas ) was an American jazz - drummer (also bongos ) of swing and modern jazz .

Kiffe, who won a drum competition in which Gene Krupa was a juror, played a leading role in the house band ( Hollywood Canteen Kids ) of Hollywood Canteen , the legendary USO club near Sunset Boulevard (Los Angeles) in 1943 . In 1944 he played a drummer ( Jive Club Drummer ) in a low budget film called Youth Aflame . Then he played with Jimmy Dorsey (from 1945 and 1950 to 1953), Tex Beneke , Charlie Barnet and from 1948 to 1950 with Georgie Auld . In New York, he worked with Charlie Shavers , Stan Getz , Zoot Sims (1956) and Jimmy McPartland and was a member of Woody Herman's hearth in 1957 . 1958/59 he played with Red Norvo and accompanied 1959 June Christy before then Jack Cathcart , founder of a vocal group in the way the Comedian Harmonists , after Las Vegas went. There he was in the house band of the Flamingo Hotel and accompanied a. a. Sammy Davis Junior .
