Karl Hermann Forster

Karl Hermann Förster (born September 18, 1853 in Zinna , † November 25, 1912 in Hamburg ) was an independent cigar manufacturer and politician of the SPD in Hamburg.

Life

Förster attended elementary school in Luckenwalde before starting to work there as a cigar worker. At the beginning of the seventies, Förster moved to Hamburg. He continued to work as a cigar worker and became politically active by becoming chairman of the Hamburg section of the tobacco workers' association. In 1885 he successfully went into business for himself as a cigar manufacturer. He was, after canceling the Socialist Law also managing director of the publishing house and printing office Auer & Co . He held this position until his death. Auer & Co mainly served as a printer for the publications of the SPD in Hamburg and de facto belonged to the party. In 1890 Förster obtained a mandate for the tenth parliamentary term of the Reichstag for the Principality of Reuss older line . He was able to defend this seat until 1907. In January 1912 he was re-elected for Reuss older line in the Reichstag. Alongside Otto Stolten, Förster was one of the most influential figures in the Hamburg SPD , and from 1895 to 1897 he was also a member of its governing body. From 1910 until his death he was a member of the Hamburg citizenship .
