Karl Herzog (born November 9, 1941 in Erfurt ) is a former German volleyball player and coach.

Career as a player

Karl Herzog started with volleyball in the GDR and was GDR youth champion with Erfurt in 1958 . In October 1958 he came to the Federal Republic of Germany . Here he played at Jugenddorf Limburgerhof and became German champion in 1959 . He then moved to Alemannia Aachen , where he again became German champion in 1961. He then went to Münster , where he co-founded the USC . Here he led the men's team from 1965 to 1972 to the German championship title eight times in a row . During this time, Karl Herzog was also a German national player 108 times , which was a record at the time.

Career as a coach

Karl Herzog was assistant coach of the West German women's national team at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich . In 1974 he became German champion as the women's coach at USC Münster . Later he coached the men from USC Münster and SSF Bonn , with whom he reached the DVV cup final. In the 1980s he again trained the Bundesliga women at USC Münster.

Private

Karl Herzog lives with his wife Margarethe in Altenberge near Münster . He has three sons and one daughter.
