Karl Hofstetter (born April 9, 1956 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss lawyer and economist. He is President of the SwissHoldings trade association .

Life and scientific activity

Karl Hofstetter comes from Lucerne. He studied law and economics at the University of Zurich , Stanford University , UCLA and Harvard University .

Karl Hofstetter received his doctorate and habilitation from the University of Zurich . He has owned the venia legendi for private and commercial law since 1995 and was appointed adjunct professor in 2002 . This was followed by visiting professorships at Harvard Law School (2005, 2009 and 2013) and at Fudan University in Shanghai (2007).

Karl Hofstetter's academic activities primarily concern Swiss and international business law. He is a recognized expert in the field of corporate governance and was responsible for the adoption of the Swiss Code of Best Practice for Corporate Governance in 2002 and its revisions in 2007 and 2014.

Karl Hofstetter is a lawyer in Meggen and is admitted to the Zurich and New York bar. He is President of the SwissHoldings trade association and the Kuoni and Hugentobler Foundation.

Karl Hofstetter was General Counsel of the Schindler Group and a member of the Board of Directors of Schindler Holding AG from 2006 to 2018. He was also a member of the boards of directors of ALSO Holding AG and Venture Incubator AG. He has been a member of the University Council of the University of Lucerne since 2006 .
