Karl Holl (literary historian)

Karl Holl (born May 26, 1886 in Heidelberg ; † November 25, 1971 ibid) was a German literary historian and university professor .

Life

Born in Heidelberg, son of the craftsman Friedrich Holl as well as Susanna née Seeger, after graduating from high school in his hometown , he turned to studying German and history , which he achieved with the academic degree of Dr. phil. completed. After years of assistance , he completed his habilitation in 1917 for the subject of German literary history at the Technical University of Karlsruhe , where he received a private lectureship in 1919 , and in 1924 he was appointed full professor . Karl Holl, who held the office of rector from 1931 to 1933 , was forced to retire in 1937. In 1945 Karl Holl was appointed regional president of North Baden , and in 1947 he was adopted into retirement.

Karl Holl, who was awarded the Goethe plaque by the Free German Hochstift in 1931 , made important contributions to the history of German literature.

Karl Holl married Bertha, née Hofmann, in 1919, with whom he had two daughters named Annelies and Eva. He died in 1971 at the age of 86 in his hometown Heidelberg.
