Karl Holthof
Karl Holthof (born March 26, 1835 in Cologne , † November 19, 1884 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a lawyer, journalist and member of the German Reichstag .
Life
Holthof graduated from high school in Cologne and studied in Bonn , Heidelberg and Berlin until 1860 jurisprudence . Due to the closure of the Rhenish advocate class under Justice Minister Simons, he turned to other activities, namely the insurance industry and was employed by the company "Providentia" in Frankfurt a. M. employed. In 1864 he joined the editorial staff of the Frankfurter Zeitung , to which he belonged until October 1871. When the Prussian troops marched into Frankfurt in 1866, he was arrested. He was reprimanded by the police several times during his journalistic career, for example expelled from Berlin in 1867 during the constituent Reichstag and twice from Frankfurt in the same year. There he was also a member of the city council and the district administrative committee.
From 1877 to 1878 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Wiesbaden 6th district (Frankfurt) and the German People's Party .
