Karl Julius Lohnert (born October 27, 1885 in Unteröwisheim , † January 21, 1944 in Leipzig ) was a German astronomer and psychologist .

Life

After graduating from secondary school in 1905, Lohnert initially studied four semesters at Heidelberg University . There he worked as an assistant to the German astronomer Max Wolf between 1905 and 1907. During this time he discovered four asteroids and dealt with the distribution of stars in the vicinity of star nebulae .

After another ten semesters of studying psychology at the University of Leipzig , Lohnert received his doctorate under Wilhelm Wundt and Johannes Volkelt . Lohnert dealt with the perception of the shape of rectangles and for this he constructed an apparatus that enabled a test person to look at two rectangles with variable aspect ratios in a short time.

The asteroid Vundtia , discovered by Lohnert in 1907, was named after Wilhelm Wundt.

Discoveries

Lohnert discovered the four asteroids (618) Elfriede , (623) Chimaera , (635) Vundtia and (639) Latona in Heidelberg between 1906 and 1907 .

The asteroid with the provisional designation 1931 TC 2 , discovered by Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth on October 10, 1931 at the observatory on the Königstuhl near Heidelberg, was given the name (11434) Lohnert in 2011 , at the suggestion of Lutz D. Schmadel .
