Karl Junghannß (born April 6, 1996 in Altenburg ) is a German walker .

Athletic career

After initial successes in the youth field at national level, Junghannß started at the World Youth Championships in Donetsk in 2013 and finished 12th in the 10,000 meter walk. In 2015 he finished second at the German championships over 5000 meters in the hall and 10,000 meters on the track and was seventh in the U20 European Cup over 10 kilometers on the road.

In 2016 Junghannß surprisingly came second at the German Championships in 50-kilometer walking and, with a time of 3:52:46 hours, met the qualification standard for the 2017 World Championships in London. The following year he won the German U23 championships in the 20-kilometer walk and also won the silver medal over this distance at the U23 European championships in Bydgoszcz . At the World Championships in London, he finished 13th in the 50-kilometer race with a personal best of 3:47:01 hours.

Aside from walking, Junghannß occasionally competes in running. In September 2018, he made his half-marathon debut at the Kassel Marathon , where he won with a time of 1:05:29 h, setting a new course record. A year later, Junghannß was the best German in his marathon debut in October 2019 at the Frankfurt Marathon and finished 27th with a time of 2:17:54 h.
