Karl Karlowitsch Voigt

Karl Karlowitsch Voigt ( Russian Карл Карлович Фойгт ; * 7 April July / 19 April  1808 greg. In Narwa ; † 30 October July / 11 November  1873 greg. In St. Petersburg ) was a German - Russian philologist and University professor .

Life

Voigt's father was the first professor of philosophy at the newly founded University of Kazan . After his father's death in 1810, Voigt grew up in the family of his Kazan relative Franz von Erdmann . He attended the Kazan grammar school with graduation in 1823 and then studied at the University of Kazan in the class for literature of the east with graduation in 1826. He then became a Persian teacher at the Kazan grammar school.

In 1828 Voigt became assistant to the librarian at the University of Kazan. He examined the bibliographic systems proposed throughout history and developed a plan for the library's order . The plan was approved by the Academy of Sciences , so all catalogs were made according to it. In 1833 Voigt became a lecturer for German language and literature. The following year he received his master's degree with his work on satire among the noblest races, old and new . He now became an adjunct at the chair of Russian literature at Kazan University with the task of teaching general literary history. Finally, he defended his dissertation on the historical significance of epics for the old and new peoples, whereupon he received his doctorate in philosophy in 1838 and was appointed associate professor . In 1842 he became a full professor at the University of Kazan and in 1845 Vice Rector . In addition, he was inspector of the classes of the Rodionova Institute for noble girls founded by Anna Nikolajewna Rodionova in 1841. In 1844 he published a detailed report on the Kazan Science District , headed by Mikhail Nikolayevich Mussin-Pushkin for 17 years , as well as a catalog of the Coin Cabinet of the University of Kazan, including an extensive section on the numismatics of the East.

1853 Voigt was the rector of the University of Kharkov added. In 1859 his book appeared on the development of Kharkov University from its foundation to the present. In the same year he became the vice curator and in 1863 the curator of the Kharkov Science District . Eventually he was transferred to St. Petersburg to become a member of the Council of the Ministry of People's Education and chairman of the graduation committee with the rank of a Secret Council (4th grade ).

Voigt was married to Nadeschda Wassiljewna nee Gluchowa and had 7 children.
