Karl Klocker

Karl Klocker OSB (born January 13, 1748 in Friedberg as Anton Klocker; † June 22, 1805 in Wiblingen ) was a German abbot and canonist .

Anton Klocker attended the Jesuit grammar school in Augsburg and entered the Benedictine Abbey of Benediktbeuern in 1765 , where he took the religious name Karl, also noted as Carl. He made his profession on October 28, 1766 . He studied theology and philosophy in Benediktbeuern and was ordained a priest in 1772. In 1784 he was appointed to a professorship for canon law (successor Adam Weishaupt ) at the University of Ingolstadt , which he had studied at the University of Salzburg (doctorate in theology and in both rights). In 1789 he was removed from office by Elector Karl Theodor when he denied the papal nunciature . He then taught in St. Emmeran and at the Regensburg Lyceum . On March 15, 1796 he was elected Abbot of Benediktbeuern by the convent and on August 21, 1797 by the General Chapter as Abbot President of the Bavarian Benedictine Congregation . He held both offices until secularization in 1803.
