Karl Kollmann (social scientist)

Karl Kollmann (born July 13, 1952 in Heidenreichstein ; † September 5, 2019 in Baden near Vienna ) was an Austrian sociologist and economist . He researched and published in particular on the topics of consumer policy and consumer protection , household and consumer economics and new technologies.

Life

In his childhood, Kollmann lived in Lower Austria, Upper Austria and briefly in Tyrol. In his youth he attended the Higher Technical School in Linz , where he in the Department of Electrical Engineering graduated . His first critical examination of social theory took place during his school days. His interest in alternative literature led to the publication of the counterculture literary magazine "Pot" during this time.

During his diploma studies in sociology and subsequent doctoral studies in Linz , he made various literary contributions, e. B. in Gasolin 23 .

His professional path led him from the Association for Consumer Information (VKI) to the Chamber for Workers and Employees (AK), where he was deputy head of the consumer policy department from 2002 until his retirement in 2012. Until the end of 2018 he was Chairman of the Consumer Council at Austrian Standards International .

Kollmann completed his habilitation in 1992 at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and was awarded the professional title of university professor . He also taught at the University of Vienna .

He has written a large number of scientific and journalistic articles in newspapers, magazines, specialist journals and online journals (e.g. Telepolis or Streifzüge ) and was co-editor of the Yearbook for Sustainable Economy ( Metropolis-Verlag ) and the critical consumer research series ( Springer VS ) .
