Karl Ladé

Karl Ladé [ laˈde ], also Karl Lade , (born November 25, 1909 in Berlin , † January 8, 1945 in Brandenburg an der Havel ) was a Franco-German resistance fighter against National Socialism .

Life

Ladé, child of French-born parents, attended the advanced school from 1924 and from 1930 the Karl Marx School in Berlin-Neukölln . During his school days he joined the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ), later the Communist Youth Association of Germany (KJVD). After finishing school he learned the trade of cardboard box cutter and worked as an auxiliary mechanic and designer.

During the Second World War , together with other communists and social democrats, he organized illegal operations in the Askania works in Berlin-Mariendorf , such as disrupting armaments production, distributing leaflets , collecting funds to support anti-fascists financially and procuring food for illegals. In addition, Karl Ladé made contact with French forced laborers . On July 12, 1944, during a wave of arrests by the Gestapo against the Saefkow-Jacob-Bästlein organization, he was arrested along with 14 other resistance fighters from the Askania works.

The People's Court sentenced him together with Kurt Rühlmann , Stanislaus Szczygielski and Walter Zimmermann on 29 November 1944 to death by the guillotine . The sentence was January 8, 1945 in Brandenburg prison-Gorden enforced .

Honors

  • On June 26, 1975, the former Roederstraße in Berlin-Fennpfuhl was renamed Karl-Lade-Straße. It runs from Landsberger Allee to Rudolf-Seiffert-Straße.
  • Since 2014 there has been a memorial plaque at Großbeerenstraße 2 in Berlin-Mariendorf for seven workers and employees of the Askania works, including Karl Ladé, who paid with their lives for their resistance in the Askania works.
