Karl Lenz (sociologist)

Karl Lenz (born June 11, 1955 in Unterstrogn ) is a German sociologist . He has been a professor at the Technical University of Dresden since 1993 , where he was dean of the Faculty of Philosophy (2003–2006), Vice-Rector for Education (2006–2010) and University Planning (2010–2015).

Life

Between 1974 and 1980 Lenz studied sociology, social and economic history and psychology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After completing his studies, he worked for a year as a research assistant at the Institute for Sociology at LMU Munich. Then Lenz moved to the Institute for Sociology at the University of Regensburg . There he initially worked as a research assistant (1981–1985) and after completing his doctorate (1985) as a research assistant (1985–1991).

Between 1990 and 1992 Lenz received various teaching positions at the universities of applied sciences in Landshut and Regensburg . In 1992 he completed his habilitation at the University of Regensburg, where he worked for a year as a private lecturer , before accepting a professorship for microsociology at the TU Dresden in 1993 . Lenz was Dean of the Philosophical Faculty there from 2003 to 2006 and Vice-Rector for Education from 2006 to 2010 . In the course of the appointment of a new Rectorate in August 2010, Lenz was elected Vice Rector for University Planning and held this office until 2015.
