Karl Manitius

Karl Manitius (born July 23, 1899 in Dresden , † December 26, 1979 in Bernried ) was a German historian .

After returning from the First World War , the son of the historian Max Manitius studied history, German and Latin at the University of Leipzig . In 1923 he received his doctorate with the thesis The Franconian historians of the Carolingian era and the secular sciences . From 1924 to 1945 he was a teacher at various grammar schools and state high schools, in Leipzig, Waldenburg in Saxony and finally in Dresden. Through the mediation of Fritz Rörig , he joined the Monumenta Germaniae Historica (MGH) at the Academy of Sciences in East Berlin in 1949 , where he was responsible for the edition of literary texts from the early Middle Ages. In 1958 Gunzo, Epistola ad Augienses, and Anselm von Besate, Rhetorimachia appeared in Weimar . In several essays he dealt with medieval library history. After moving to Bavaria (1968), the edition Sextus Amarcius, Sermones was published in Weimar , on which he has been working since 1955. The edited edition of the Bible poem of Eupolemius was published in 1973.
