Karl Oesterle

Karl Oesterle (born September 13, 1894 in Groß-Umstadt , † December 11, 1965 in Stuttgart ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ). From 1955 to 1961 he was 2nd chairman of the Public Services, Transport and Traffic Union (ÖTV).

Life

Oesterle attended elementary school and completed an apprenticeship as a gardener. He moved from Hessen to Ahrensburg . He became a soldier in 1915, and was only released from military service in 1919 after the First World War . He worked for the garden department of the city of Hamburg and settled in the city with his family. In 1919 he joined the Association of Gardeners and Horticultural Workers, in 1920 the Association of Community and State Workers, and in the same year he joined the SPD. In the garden department he was a member of the works council from 1923 to 1926 and was elected chairman of the committee in 1924.

In 1926 he became a full-time trade unionist in the Association of Community and State Workers. As a part-time job, he trained in labor law, collective bargaining law as well as in economics and business administration.

In 1929 Oesterle was a delegate on the founding day of the General Association of Workers in Public Enterprises and the Movement of People and Goods and became a member of the Greater Hamburg district administration.

In 1933 he was released by the National Socialists. During the Nazi era he was arrested several times. He moved to Oststeinbek and did not find work again in a roofing felt factory until 1935. In August 1939 he was drafted again for military service, but released again in March 1940 and worked again in the roofing felt factory until June 1945. He then worked for the General Association of Transport and Community Workers, was elected to the board on July 19, 1945 and was again a full-time trade unionist.

The British occupation authorities appointed Oesterle as mayor of Oststeinbek at the end of 1945; however, he gave up the post in December 1946 because he felt overburdened. In addition, he was a member of the district council of the Stormarn district from 1946 to 1948 .

He belonged to the 2nd appointed Landtag Schleswig-Holstein from December 1946 to. April 1947 and was a member of the Denazification Committee . In September 1947, Oesterle took part as a delegate and was elected to the main board at the unions for public services, transport and traffic in the British zone.

In the trade union for public services, transport and traffic - Oesterle moved to Stuttgart - he was elected 2nd chairman in 1955. In July 1961 he left the service.
