Karl Pellens

Karl Pellens (born April 13, 1934 in Essen-Steele ; † May 6, 2003 in Unterankenreute near Weingarten , Upper Swabia ) was a German historian .

Life

Karl Pellens grew up in Bad Hönningen . He studied history at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg , where he became a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Falkenstein in the CV .

He completed his studies at the University of Friborg (Switzerland) with a grant from the Felix Porsch Foundation, which is part of the CV . In Friborg , he was in 1957 when the historian Hans Foerster to Dr. phil. PhD . In 1957 and 1958 he passed both state exams. The Reformation researcher, historian and ecumenist Joseph Lortz brought Pellens to the Institute for European History in Mainz as a research assistant in 1963 . In 1973 he completed his habilitation with the work “The Church Thinking of Norman Anonymus”.

In 1972, he received a call to the chair of medieval and modern history and its didactics at the University of Education Weingarten .

Pellens was married. The marriage had three children.

Act

Karl Pellens published numerous scientific papers. In particular, his publications on didactics were internationally recognized, especially in Poland and Hungary . In 1993 Hungary awarded him the “Pro Cultura Hungarica” prize.

Pellens was also chairman of the International Society for History Didactics and co-editor of the communications and yearbook of this society.

Karl Pellens has made a special contribution to the memory of the Jesuit Rupert Mayer, who has since been beatified . It is thanks to his initiative that a bronze relief to Rupert Mayer exists in the hall of honor of the University of Friborg.
