Karl Porzelt

Karl August Bernhard Porzelt (born August 20, 1871 in Cologne , † March 30, 1943 in Mönchengladbach ) was a German lawyer and local politician .

Life

Karl Porzelt was born in Cologne as the son of the businessman Paul Porzelt (1844–1923) and his wife Helene (1847–1879), née Harperath . After attending the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Cologne, Porzelt studied law in Marburg , Berlin and Bonn before receiving his doctorate in both rights at the University of Leipzig in 1897 . During his studies he became a member of the Alemannia Marburg fraternity in 1890 and of the Frankonia fraternity in Bonn in 1892 .

From 1899 he was a court assessor in Berlin before he then worked in Mülheim an der Ruhr and Krefeld . In October 1900 he was appointed First Alderman of the City of Mönchengladbach by the incumbent Mayor Hermann Piecq . As an alderman, he carried the title of mayor and was also known as the “mayor of Waldhausen”. Porzelt was dismissed as an alderman in 1930, was "mayor without office" and was retired in 1933.

Karl Porzelt was married to Maria Elisabeth "Ella" (1874–1956), née Krauss, with whom he had two children.

Honors

In 1956 in Mönchengladbach the former General-Kraus-Str. named after him.
