Carl Prohaska also Karl (born April 25, 1869 in Mödling , Lower Austria , † March 27, 1927 in Vienna ) was an Austrian composer , music teacher and conductor .

Life

He studied piano with Eugen d'Albert and composition with Eusebius Mandyczewski and Heinrich von Herzogenberg and was friends with Johannes Brahms . Prohaska taught at the Strasbourg Conservatory from 1894 to 1895 and directed the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra from 1901 to 1905. In 1908 he became professor at the Conservatory of the Vienna Philharmonic Society.

He found his final resting place in the Pötzleinsdorfer Friedhof (group D, row 42, number 308) in Vienna . In 1959 Carl-Prohaska-Platz in Vienna- Favoriten was named after him.

Carl Prohaska is the great grandfather of Anna Prohaska and Daniel Prohaska
