Karl Riegel

Karl Riegel (born July 17, 1915 in Trautenau , Bohemia , † September 14, 2001 in Göppingen ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending the elementary and community school, Riegel completed an apprenticeship as a hairdresser from 1929 to 1932 and attended the trade school at the same time. In the following years he mainly worked as a hairdresser. He did military service in the army of Czechoslovakia from 1937 , took part in the Second World War as a soldier on the German side after the occupation of the CSR in 1938 and suffered a serious wound in his right hand in 1942. Most recently he was taken prisoner of war. After the end of the war, Riegel moved to Göppingen in West Germany as a displaced person and organized the resettlement of social democratic families from his home district of Trautenau in the Filstal . Since August 1946 he worked as an employee at the Eßlingen am Neckar employment office. After his active political career, he was head of the Esslingen employment office from 1970 to 1977.

Karl Riegel was married and has two children.

Political party

Riegel joined the SAJ in 1929 and joined the DSAP in 1936 , which was banned by the National Socialists in 1938. In 1951 he was one of the founders of the Seliger community and had been a member of the SPD Göppingen since 1946, of which he was chairman from 1950 to 1961.

MP

Riegel was a member of the district council of the Göppingen district from 1947 to 1973 and was elected chairman of the SPD parliamentary group there in 1953. From 1950 to 1952 he was a member of the state parliament of Württemberg-Baden , 1952/53 a member of the state constituent assembly in Baden-Württemberg and from 1953 until his resignation on November 10, 1961 a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1961 to 1969. In both electoral terms he was drawn into parliament via the Baden-Württemberg state list. During his entire political time in the district council, state parliament and federal parliament he campaigned for a new building for the Göppingen hospital. Construction of the new Göppingen clinic began in October 1970 and in 1979 the new clinic on Eichert was inaugurated. In July 2007, the district of Göppingen named a path directly at the clinic after Karl Riegel as recognition.
