Karl Roensch
Karl Roensch (born April 18, 1858 in Apolda ; † June 16, 1921 in Bad Kissingen ) was a German factory owner and city councilor (1896-1919). He was u. a. President of the Chamber of Commerce in Olsztyn .
Life
Karl Roensch lived in Allenstein from 1885. Here he made an outstanding contribution to the building of Allenstein from a country town to a medium- sized town as the head of the city council together with Mayor Oskar Belian and later with Mayor Georg Zülch .
Roensch earned personal merit in expanding the canal and water network, building the power station and the electric tram . During his tenure, Allenstein became a rail hub , seat of the administrative district (from 1905) and garrison town . His health forced him to resign in 1919. During his cure in Bad Kissingen , he died of a heart attack .
The name "Karl Roensch" is one of the few traces of the German language that can still be seen in the city of Olsztyn today. The attentive observer will find the inscription "Karl Roensch, Allenstein" on numerous covers of the sewer system.
