Karl Romstorfer

Karl Adam Romstorfer (contemporary Carl Adam , born March 17, 1854 in Aigen-Gaunersdorf in Lower Austria ; † September 24, 1916 in Vienna ) was an Austrian commercial school director in Salzburg , architect , government councilor, kk  curator and editor of several scientific publications.

biography

His father was a property owner and wine merchant. Karl A. Romstorfer attended secondary school and the Imperial and Royal  Technical University of Vienna . After completing the engineering and completing his one-year military service, he had five years of construction experience, particularly as an architect. He worked for one year as an assistant at the Vienna University of Technology, three years as the head of the technical school in Bergreichenstein in Bohemia, eleven years as a professor and nine years as the director of the State Trade School in Chernivtsi . His works were various art historical writings, mostly on the Moldavian-Byzantine style and a larger work on the cooperage, three volumes on joinery, workers' houses, etc. v. a. His main interest was in art- architectural work, in particular on Byzantine architecture and castles , and also on the woodworking house industry. As an architect, he was involved in numerous building projects, such as schools, chapels, churches, namely in the Moldavian- Byzantine style, the palace buildings in many crown lands of Austria as well as in Hungary, Württemberg and Romania. Several of his competition designs were awarded.

He was married to Melanie geb. West and had two children: Erwald (* 1891) and Irmfried (* 1896).

Merits

He has received several awards for his services. Among other things, he was appointed Commander of the Order of the Crown of Romania and Knight of the Order of Franz Joseph . He also received the Romanian gold medal bene Merenti . He was the founder and multiple writer of the Bukovinian State Museum, a member of the Imperial and Royal Agricultural Society Vienna, the Bukovinian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Chernivtsi and the Romanian Art Association in Budapest .
