Karl Schlösser (painter)

Karl Schlösser (born December 14, 1934 in Demmin ; † March 21, 2018 there ) was a German painter , sculptor and writer . He was the author of regional historical literature and fiction .

Life

Karl Schlösser spent his childhood in Demmin and was here in the spring of 1945 as a ten-year-old witness to the mass suicide of around 1000 residents of the city and refugees.

After the war he learned the trade of watchmaker and later became self-employed as a master craftsman. From 1963 to 1973 he directed the workers' theater in Demmin. During this time he received the State Theater Anklam a directing course .

From 1969 to 1990, Karl Schlösser led adult and children's circles for sculpture and painting at the district culture house in Demmin. He then worked for the archive library of the Demmin District Home Museum until 2003 . After that he continued to volunteer there. There he was also able to exhibit his pictures several times. He presented other exhibitions in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania area , but also in Berlin and Itzehoe . The city of Demmin granted him honorary citizenship in 2017.

He was married to Lilo Schlösser (born September 13, 1940 in Beuthen , Silesia ), a trained pedagogue.

After the reunification , Karl Schlösser became increasingly active as a writer. He published several books on regional historical topics, collections of legends from Western Pomerania and fiction.
