Karl Spielbüchler (born September 27, 1939 in Bad Ischl ; † January 9, 2012 in Gosau ) was an Austrian lawyer , university professor and member of the Constitutional Court.

Life

As the son of the SPÖ politician Karl Spielbüchler from Gosau, who was persecuted under Austrofascism , he studied law and political science from 1958 after graduating from high school with training as a primary school teacher; In 1962 he received his doctorate from the University of Vienna . After his first employment from 1966 as a district judge in the Mühlviertel he was from 1967 to 1971 assistant at the "Institute for Labor Law and Social Law" of the "University of Social and Economic Sciences" Linz and from 1970 a member of the "Commission for the preparation of the reorganization of labor law". In the same year he received his habilitation in civil lawand labor law ; In 1971 he was appointed associate professor and in 1973 full professor for civil law at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz , which has since emerged from the university . In 1975 he became a member of the "Commission for the Protection of the Broadcasting Act". In 1976, at the age of 36, he was appointed a member of the Constitutional Court, the youngest and, at the end of his tenure in 2009, also the longest-serving member in Austrian history.

He was co-founder and since 2001 president of the "Austrian Society for Labor Law and Social Law".

Spielbüchler was married and had three children. After his retirement he lived again in his home town of Gosau.

Karl Spielbüchler died on January 9, 2012 at the age of 72.
