Karl Stammer
Karl Stammer (born February 29, 1828 in Luxembourg ; † July 25, 1893 in Rolandseck ) was a chemist from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg who had lived and worked in Germany since his studies.
Life

Karl Stammer was the son of Heinrich Stammer (1785-1859), professor at the Athenaeum Luxembourg . From 1846 Karl Stammer studied natural sciences at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , the Ludwigs-Universität Gießen and the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin . 1850 doctorate he in Berlin with a dissertation on chemical reduction by carbon oxide to Dr. phil.
In Gießen, where Stammer was enrolled in the winter semester of 1848/49, he attended lectures by Justus Liebig . He is one of the two Luxembourg Liebig students, the other was the pharmacist and high school professor Jos Namur .
From 1857 Stammer was a teacher at the provincial trade school in Münster . Later he ran a sugar factory in Koberwitz near Breslau in Silesia ; it is probably the factory of Carl vom Rath († 1904).

Stammer published numerous individual studies on topics such as nitrogen lead oxide, the lime content of bone char, luminosity of wood gas , luminous gas from peat , chemistry and technology of sugar. He was the author or co-author of a number of monographs and publisher of magazines on sugar production, including: Annual report on the research and progress in the total area of sugar production , pocket calendar for sugar manufacturers and the journal of the Association for the Beet Sugar Industry of the German Reich .
