Karl Wasserrab
Karl Wasserrab (born January 17, 1851 in Opava , Austrian Silesia, † July 25, 1916 in Munich ) was a German economist , social reformer and representative of Catholic social doctrine .
Live and act
Karl Wasserrab was the son of the Catholic couple Franz and Karoline Wasserrab. The father worked as a domain administrator for Count Stadion and died in 1855.
From 1868 Wasserrab began studying law and political science at the University of Vienna , where he was one of the students of the famous Professor Lorenz von Stein . After completing his studies, he received his doctorate in law at the University of Göttingen in 1879 and in social sciences at the Munich University of Applied Sciences in 1888 . There he completed his habilitation in economics in 1889. From 1893 to 1899 Karl Wasserrab taught as an honorary professor at the newly re-established Swiss University of Freiburg im Üchtland , and from 1899 back in Munich. In Freiburg he worked closely with his college colleague, the Bavarian Dominican Albert Maria Weiss (1844–1925).
One of Karl Wasserrab's best-known students is the social reformer and workers pastor Ludwig Nieder (1880–1922), who is also known as the “ Kolping of the 20th century” . The poet and traveler Alfons Paquet (1881–1944) also attended his lectures in Munich.
Wasserrab was an honorary member of the Catholic student association KSSt.V. Alemannia Munich in the KV .
Wasserrab published many, sometimes very critical books and writings on German social policy and economics in the Hohenzollern Empire.
