Karl Wilhelm Kalkoff

Karl Wilhelm Kalkoff (born April 21, 1909 in Porz ; † May 7, 1981 in Bad Krozingen ) was a German dermatologist and university professor .

Life

Karl Wilhelm Kalkoff was the son of the engineer Arthur Kalkoff. After completing his school career, he studied medicine at the Universities of Göttingen, Cologne and Munich. He was awarded a Dr. med. PhD .

After his internship, he became a senior physician at the Haus Hornheide lupus sanctuary near Münster in 1939 , where he worked for ten years. After his habilitation , he was also a private lecturer at the University of Münster from 1944 . He joined the NSDAP in 1941.

From 1949 he headed the skin clinic at the General Hospital St. Georg in Hamburg. In the same year he became an adjunct professor. In 1950 he was appointed to the chair of dermatology at the University of Marburg , where he was also director of the university skin clinic. In the same function he moved to the University of Freiburg im Breisgau in 1960 , where he worked until his retirement in 1978. Kalkhoff rendered outstanding services to the modernization of the Freiburg dermatological clinic. He researched in particular tuberculosis and sarcoid of the skin.

Kalkoff was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in 1964 . From 1965 to 1970 he was President of the German Society for Combating Venereal Diseases . He was the author of numerous specialist publications.
