Karl Zweymüller

Karl Zweymüller (born April 20, 1941 in Vienna ) is an Austrian orthopedist and university professor.

Live and act

After graduating from the humanistic grammar school in Baden near Vienna, he studied medicine at the University of Vienna . In 1967 he became an assistant at the Institute for General and Experimental Pathology in Vienna and initially trained in general surgery . The specialist training in conservative and operative orthopedics took place at the Orthopedic University Clinic Vienna under Karl Chiari . During this time he undertook numerous study visits to clinics in Europe and the USA , including 5 visits to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester . Since 1972 he has dealt with hip joints anchored without bone cement, and since 1973 he has been a specialist in orthopedics and orthopedic surgery. In 1979 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on bone and joint replacement with bioceramic endoprostheses , the Zweymüller prosthesis developed in the process is internationally renowned. In 1986 he became an associate professor at the University of Vienna. From September 1991 to May 2006 he was Head of Department and Medical Director at the Orthopedic Hospital Gersthof in Vienna. Since May 2006 he has been the representative for quality control for hip endoprosthetics on the part of the General Management of the Vienna Hospital Association. On May 11, 2012, Marianne Klicka awarded him the Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the State of Vienna .
