Karl von Holtzbrinck

Karl Friedrich von Holtzbrinck (born March 1, 1815 in Altena , † October 22, 1897 in Bonn ) was a German landowner, administrative lawyer and district administrator.

Origin and family

Karl von Holtzbrinck came from a family that was ennobled in 1766 and was the son of the married couple Heinrich Wilhelm von Holtzbrinck and Henriette nee. Haardt.

Both his father Heinrich Wilhelm and his grandfather of the same name were district administrators in the Altena district . His brother Heinrich Wilhelm was the Prussian trade minister and district administrator of the Altena district from 1841 to 1853, his brother Arnold Ludwig was the district administrator of the Siegen district from 1846 to 1854 and the Altena district from 1854 to 1878. His brother-in-law Reinhard von Hymmen was also district administrator ( district of Hagen ). Karl von Holtzbrinck married Bernhardine Modesta Caroline Rosette Wilhemine von Hymmen on June 8, 1851 in Herscheid. The marriage produced five daughters and one son.

Professional background

After the leaving certificate at the high school Dusseldorf, he studied at the universities of Bonn and Berlin Law and cameralism and put on 22 April 1836, the examination for Auskultator the Berlin Court of Appeal with the result "good". In June 1836 he was appointed auscultator at the Hamm Higher Regional Court. He passed the examination for court trainee lawyer with "very good", so that on March 18, 1839 he was appointed court trainee lawyer at the Higher Regional Court of Hamm . Seven months later he became a government trainee with the Arnsberg district government . In August 1841 he moved to Herscheid as a bailiff and in December 1842 resigned from civil service at his own request in order to devote himself to natural history studies. In 1843 he was elected district deputy in the Altena district. From January 1, 1846, he was again active as a bailiff in Herscheid until January 9, 1851, when he was entrusted with the municipal administration of the Hagen district office. The definitive appointment to the district administrator of the Hagen district was on December 3, 1851. On April 19, 1856 he was dismissed from civil service at his own request. Von Holtzbrinck was director of the agricultural district association Altena. He did his military service as a one-year volunteer in the Guards Rifle Battalion in Berlin and became second lieutenant in the 16th Landwehr Regiment.
