Karl von Knorring
Karl Bogdanowitsch von Knorring , Russian: Карл Богданович Кнорринг (born August 12, 1774 - March 17, 1817 ) was a Russian major general from the Baltic German noble family von Knorring .
Life
His parents were the Russian infantry general Gotthard Johann von Knorring (1744-1825) and Wilhelmine von Liphart (1753-1818).
He joined the Guard Cavalry as an ensign in 1787; In 1796 he moved to the Olwiopol hussar regiment as captain. In 1801 he was appointed adjutant to the cavalry general Apraxin with the rank of captain. In 1805 he fought under General Ivan I. Michelson. For the 1806 campaign in East Prussia, Knorring was appointed commander of the Tatar Rider Regiment (from November 1807 Uhlanen Regiment), with which he took part in the war against the French. He distinguished himself in the Battle of Pultusk (January 8, 1807) and received the Order of St. George 4th Class. His cavalry operated around Allenstein and fought in the battle of Heilsberg . In 1809 he took part in the campaign in Galicia and occupied Lemberg (Lviv). In the wars of liberation he commanded his cavalry in Saxony in the summer of 1813 and was wounded in the battle of Kulm .
