Karl von Normann (born September 21, 1827 in Franzburg , † July 17, 1888 in Braunschweig ) was a Prussian officer, court official and diplomat.

Life

Karl Wilhelm Christof von Normann was born as the son of the lawyer Karl Heinrich von Normann and his wife Wilhelmine, a daughter of the general superintendent and Greifswald theology professor Johann Christoph Ziemssen . Major General Axel von Normann (1760–1835) was his grandfather.

After attending the Greifswald grammar school , he became a soldier. He went on an educational trip via Berlin to Vienna, Italy and Paris to London. In 1852 Normann married Emma Anderssen from Greifswald († January 18, 1918). In 1853 he attended the Prussian War Academy . In 1858 he was promoted to prime lieutenant and in 1859 to captain.

In 1864 Normann became the private secretary of Crown Princess Victoria . In 1866 he also became a lecturer and first adjutant to Crown Prince Friedrich . In 1872, Normann was responsible for appointing Count Usedom as acting general director of the Berlin museums.

In 1883 he gave up the adjutancy and became court marshal . In the summer of 1884 Normann was dismissed from court service and appointed as the Prussian ambassador extraordinary and authorized minister in Oldenburg , Braunschweig and Lippe . Otto von Bismarck counted Normann among his courtly opponents.

Normann died of a heart attack a few weeks after the death of Emperor Friedrich and was buried in the old cemetery in Greifswald.
