Karl Johann Gustav Leopold Ramm , von Ramm since 1854 , (born October 9, 1803 in Berlin , † December 21, 1865 in Breslau ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 6th Artillery Brigade .

Life

Karl was a son of the Prussian artillery officer August Leopold Ramm (* 1765) and his wife Luise Henriette, née Lehmann (* 1782). His brother Adolf rose to lieutenant general .

Military career

He joined the Guards Artillery Brigade as a gunner on May 1, 1820 . From 1821 to 1823 he was posted to the United Artillery and Engineering School . At that time he was appointed Portepeefähnrich on October 14, 1822. After his return, he was appointed aggregate second lieutenant on November 2, 1823 , was assigned on July 25, 1826 and then appointed as a department adjutant from 1833 to 1838. At that time he was appointed Premier Lieutenant on June 8, 1834, in 1835 he was adjutant of the delegation of the Guards Artillery Brigade at the parade in Kalisch . On June 5, 1841, he was promoted to captain. During the March Revolution in 1848 he took part in the street fighting in Berlin. On May 9, 1848, he was appointed director of the artillery depot in Berlin. On January 1, 1853 he was promoted to major and came as commander of the fortress department of the 7th Artillery Regiment.

On September 6, 1854, he was raised to the Prussian nobility. He was appointed on November 4, 1854 as a commander in the II. Division of the Guards Artillery Regiment and on December 14, 1854 also a member of the examination committee for premier lieutenants of the artillery. On June 6, 1857 he was appointed commander of the 6th Artillery Regiment and on May 22, 1858 promoted to lieutenant colonel. On October 3, 1859, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 3rd class with ribbon, and on October 28, 1859, the Russian Order of St. Stanislaus, 2nd class with a crown . He was appointed Colonel and Brigadier of Artillery Brigade No. 6 on July 1, 1860. In addition, on October 18, 1861, he received the Order of the Crown, 3rd Class . He was promoted to major general on June 25, 1864 and appointed commander of the 6th Artillery Brigade. But already on October 13, 1865 he received his retirement with a pension, only to be put up for disposal on November 11, 1865 with a pension . He died a little later on December 21, 1865 in Breslau.

As Premier-Lieutenant he was assessed as follows in 1839: An officer of general education, good professional knowledge and keen zeal for the service, continues to acquire the practical knowledge he still lacks for the service of the mounted artillery . He married Julie Bertha Praetorius (1818–1845), a daughter of the Kommerzienrat Georg Praetorius, in Berlin on August 29, 1839.
