Karl von Richthofen

Karl Otto Johannes Theresius Freiherr von Richthofen (born May 30, 1811 in Damsdorf ; † March 7, 1888 in Damsdorf) was a German legal historian and lawyer .

Life

Karl von Richthofen was a German philologist and made a special contribution to Frisian legal history. He also taught constitutional law from 1841 to 1860 at the law faculty of the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin . Freiherr von Richthofen belongs to the old Silesian family Richthofen . In 1850 he was a member of the Volkshaus of the Erfurt Union Parliament .

Library

Richthofen's posthumous reference library of 4,250 volumes was acquired by Columbia University's law school in 1926 .

Karl von Richthofen came from the noble family of Richthofen . His father was Karl von Richthofen (1787–1841) , heir to Brecheishof, Bersdorf, Rosen, Damsdorf, Tscharnikau, etc., as well as the Prussian district administrator of the Jauer district. His mother was Therese Freiin Grote (1791-1811) from the Grabow family, she was the daughter of the Hanover State Minister Freiherr Otto Ulrich Grote (1750-1808) and Charlotte von Plato (1757-1821). His younger brother was the MP Ernst von Richthofen . His first wife was Sophie von Lützow (1816–1855) in Glogau in 1840 , the daughter of the Prussian general Leopold von Lützow . After the death of his first wife, he married Sophie von Frankenberg (1818–1879), daughter of Major Heinrich von Frankenberg and Friederike von Richthofen, in Berlin in 1857 . His third wife was Elfriede Freiin Grote (1848–1930) in Berlin in 1879 , daughter of Karl Freiherr Grote and Charlotte von Frankenberg .
