Karl von Schomberg

Karl von Schomberg , 2nd Duke of Schomberg, (French Charles de Schomberg, 2nd duc de Schomberg , born August 5, 1645 in 's-Hertogenbosch , † October 17, 1693 in Turin ) was a German-born general in the service of various gentlemen .

He was the eldest son of Friedrich von Schomberg . He came with this from the French as major general in the Brandenburg service, in which he was governor of Magdeburg on October 30, 1687 and lieutenant general on October 25, 1689 . In 1688 the Infantry Regiment No. 20 was established for him from parts of Regiments No. 7 and No. 9 .

Like his older brother Meinhard, he accompanied his father to England, then left the Brandenburg service, fought with the troops of the states allied against France from 1691 to 1693 in Italy and died of the wound he had received on October 4, 1693 in the Battle of Marsaglia .

When his father fell in 1690, he inherited his Peerage of England title Duke of Schomberg . When he himself fell in 1693, the title went to his brother Meinhard.
