Karl von Weber (politician)

Karl von Weber , from 1912 also von Weber-Braegger , (born March 20, 1879 in Schwyz ; † January 7, 1964 ibid) was a Swiss politician ( CVP ).

Life

Weber was the son of the office secretary Franz Xaver von Weber and came from the Weber family . he graduated from the college Maria Hilf in Schwyz and then went to study law at the universities of Bern and Freiburg . There he received the degree of Lic. Iur in 1902 . He was then from 1903 to 1905 district clerk in Gossau before he became secretary of the finance department of the canton of Schwyz in 1905 . He remained in this office until 1920.

As is customary for members of the family, Weber took on public offices. From 1916 to 1920 he served as a Cantonal Councilor in Schwyz , before he headed the finance department there as a government councilor from 1920 to 1944 . He introduced the income tax in the canton. From 1924 to 1926 he was Schwyz Landammann . Subsequently, from 1944 to 1960, he held the position of bank advisor at Schwyzer Kantonalbank . Weber was also elected to the National Council in 1925 and held the presidium of the Finance Directors' Conference from 1942 to 1944.

Weber's files are now kept in the Weber family archive in the Bern State Archives.
