Karlheinz Gröchenig (born February 6, 1959 in Feldkirch ) is an Austrian mathematician at the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna .

Gröchenig studied mathematics at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate sub auspiciis under Harald Rindler in 1985 on the subject of almost constant sequences and even distribution in locally compact groups . After working at McMaster University and the University of Connecticut , he returned to Vienna in 2006. In 2004 he received the Marie-Curie Excellence Award of the EU, in 2019 the Erwin Schrödinger Prize from the Austrian Academy of Sciences .

His main focus is on harmonic analysis , especially time-frequency analysis .
