Karlheinz Simon

Karlheinz Simon (born July 15, 1913 in Dortmund , † February 24, 2007 in Lommersum ) was a German table tennis player and official. He was German champion in doubles.

Active player

He began his career at ESV Blau-Rot Bonn (then TTC Blau-Rot Bonn), which he helped to found. In 1934 he was runner-up in the West German championship. In 1947 he won the German doubles championship in Heppenheim together with Helmuth Hoffmann ; they beat Jupp Schlaf and Bernie Vossebein in the final . He was German runner-up three times with the Bonn team (including Helmuth Hoffmann, Albrecht Nicolai and Bernie Vossebein , Hans Köhler, Bert Huthmacher, Max Höper), namely in 1947, 1948 and 1949; in the final one was defeated by MTV Munich 1879 .

Before the Second World War, Simon was a sports manager in the Gau Mittelrhein. In 1949 he took over from Dr. Oscar Witscher as chairman of the West German table tennis association WTTV . In 1951 he resigned for health reasons; he was 100 percent badly damaged by the war. In the same year he was appointed honorary chairman of the WTTV. As a result, he took on other tasks on the board.

Simon Cup

In 1967 the head of the Bonn Generalanzeiger Klemens Hoffstadt initiated the Simon Cup . This is an annual team tournament for popular sport - teams from the district classes and district leagues - in the Bonn district. This tournament bears Simon's name. Often there were more than 200 teams at the start.

Private

Simon grew up in Essen and Bonn. Until 1975 he worked as a senior building officer at the city administration of Bonn. He was married and had three children. Most recently he lived in Lommersum, a district of Weilerswist .
