Karlheinz Tscheliessnigg
Karlheinz Tscheliessnigg (born December 24, 1946 in Graz ) is an Austrian doctor . He was head of the University Clinic for Surgery and Head of the Clinical Department for Cardiac Surgery and Head of the Clinical Department for Transplant Surgery at the Medical University of Graz . After his retirement, he joined the Steirische Krankenanstaltengesellschaft as chairman of the board in March 2013.
Life
He studied medicine at the Medical Faculty of the Karl Franzens University in Graz and trained as a specialist in surgery, cardiac surgery, intensive care medicine and vascular surgery. In 1996 he succeeded Julius Kraft-Kinz and, after studying in Stanford , Pittsburgh , Munich and Hanover, introduced organ transplantation in Graz. The heart program started in 1986, the liver program in 1989, and the heart-lung program in 1991. In the meantime, all solid organs are transplanted in this department . In 1990 he performed the first dynamic cardiomyoplasty in German-speaking countries. In 1991 the first artificial heart implantation took place. In August 1997 he carried out the first ventricular synchronization worldwide (InSync) and thus used the first pacemaker for the treatment of heart failure .
As chairman of the structure committee, he was still in charge of structuring the clinic at the medical faculty in Graz to reflect the current state of the clinics and departments and was chairman of the professors' curia of the medical faculty at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz until 2004 . In 2003 he was appointed as the founding convention chairman of the Medical University and was instrumental in the establishment of the Medical University. Under his leadership the first rector of this university was elected. In the first rectorate under rector Walter, he was vice rector for the clinical area and from October 2007 to February 2008 he was acting rector of the Medical University of Graz.
In 2007 he also took over the management of the Clinical Department for Cardiac Surgery after Bruno Rigler. In addition, the LKH University Clinic 2020 project was heralded in the first rectorate under his leadership and finally approved by Finance Minister Pröll in November 2009 as part of the HELP campaign . This project was signed in March 2010, which means that 478.6 million euros are available to continue the ongoing LKH-2000 project for the expansion and modernization of the clinic. The largest part of this project is the renovation and the new construction of the surgery with approx. 240 million euros.
In February 2013 he was appointed to the board of directors of the Styrian hospitals.
