Julius Kraft-Kinz (born December 13, 1925 in Innsbruck ; † May 31, 2018 in Graz ) was an Austrian surgeon. He was professor emeritus for surgery at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz .

After receiving his doctorate in general medicine at the University of Innsbruck on February 3, 1951 , he completed his surgical apprenticeship with his uncle Rudolf Kraft in Düren and joined the University Clinic for Surgery in Graz in 1956. On November 19, 1962, he and Franz Spath performed the first heart operation in Austria using a heart- lung machine . In 1970 he succeeded Franz Spath as head of the Univ. Clinic for Surgery of the LKH Graz and built a. a. the department system.

On March 12, 1984, Kraft-Kinz and Bruno Rigler conducted the first heart transplant in Graz, with the patient surviving the operation by eight weeks. Kraft-Kinz brought children's heart surgery and heart surgery to a high standard that is not only recognized in Austria. Kraft-Kinz was replaced by Karlheinz Tscheliessnigg in 1996 after 26 years as head of the clinic.

In 1997 he was awarded the Great Gold Medal of Honor of the State of Styria with the star . In 2016 he received the Auenbrugger Cross of Honor from the Medical University of Graz
