location
The Karlspitz is located in Styria south of the Ennstal . The Karlscharte and the Speiereck ( 2131 m ) lie to the north , the Schusterstuhl ( 2321 m ) and the Große Knallstein ( 2599 m ) to the south . The mountain range lies in the Sölktäler Nature Park ; it separates the valleys of the Großsölkbach and the Kleinsölkbach.

The Karlspitz is part of the Schladminger Tauern, which are part of the Niedere Tauern . Its summit consists of phyllite , quartzite , lydite , mica schist and limestone .
