The carnic bellflower ( Campanula carnica ), also called flax-leaf bellflower , is a species of bellflower ( Campanula ) in the bellflower family (Campanulaceae).

features

The Carnic Bellflower is an evergreen, perennial , herbaceous plant that reaches heights of (12) 20 to 35 centimeters. It forms a Pleiokorm root . The whole plant is almost always bare, and very rarely has shaggy hairs. The basal leaves are rounded, heart-shaped, serrated and usually still present during the flowering period.

The flowers are nodding. The calyx tip is protruding to turned back and half as long to longer than the crown. The crown is wide-bell-shaped, funnel-shaped, blue-violet in color and 15 to 30 millimeters long. The fruit is erect and densely covered with whitish papillae.

The flowering time is in July and August.

Occurrence

The Carnic Bellflower occurs from the Southeast Alps to the Bergamasque Alps in montane rock crevices and on rock rubble at altitudes of mostly 200 to 1500 meters.

Systematics

Campanula carnica was 1,826 Christian Julius Wilhelm differences in Franz Karl Mertens & Wilhelm Daniel Joseph Koch : JC Röhlings Germany Flora , Volume 2, page 158 firstdescribed . A synonym for Campanula carnica Schiede ex Mert. & WDJKoch is Campanula linifolia Scop. non L.

There are two subspecies:

  • Campanula carnica Schiede ex Mert. & WDJKoch subsp. carnica : It occurs in the southern Alps and in the southern Carpathians.
  • Campanula carnica subsp. puberula Podlech : It occurs only in the Bergamasque Alps .

use

The flax-leaf bellflower is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens. It has been in culture since 1813 at the latest.
