Act

As a singer and instrumentalist, Kantelinen has specialized in the interpretation of runolaulut and other genres of traditional Karelian music such as joiku and itkuversi. She initially belonged as a soprano to the women's choir Philomela , with whom the album Mieli (2004) was created. She is also active in solo projects, but also in the Duo Tipsy Gipsy with Susan Aho , at Suden Aika, SetAkat, Ketsurat, Sari Kaasinen & Otawa and The Swingin 'Shoemakers . She can also be heard on albums by Petri Laaksonen, her brother Tuomas Kantelinen and Kumea Sound .

She also teaches at the Ethnomusic Department at the University of Helsinki . She wrote her dissertation on the yoik traditions in Karelia in Russia at the Folk Music Department of the Sibelius Academy .
