history

The Miranda (Type 163)

The seven ships were ordered by various shipping companies in order to charter them out to the Finnish Transfennica on a long-term basis . The first two units were ordered by the Finnish Godby Shipping Ab through its own owner companies Oy Minicarriers Ab and Oy Trailer-Link Ab. The type ship Mistral was delivered on January 2, 1999, the Miranda followed on February 12, 1999. The two other ships of the base type 163, the Friedrich Russ and the Elisabeth Russ , ordered the Hamburg shipping company Ernst Russ . They were delivered on March 19 and April 24, 1999. Transfennica initially used the four units in liner service between Hanko (Finland) and Lübeck (Germany).

The ordered by the Finnish Bror Husell Chartering From Seagard and the two ordered by Reederei Russ ships Caroline Russ and Pauline Russ belong to subtype 163a. They were originally planned by Transfennica for trips between Hamina (Finland) and Tilbury ( Great Britain ). In order to be able to complete the rounds on this route within a week, the three ships have more powerful main engines and reach a higher speed.

The series was initially only used in the North Sea and Baltic Sea . From 2004 the shipping company Godby Shipping used the Mistral , and a year later also the Miranda , for UPM-Kymmene between Rauma (Finland) and Santander ( Spain ). Since the beginning of the 2010s, some ships have been sailing in the Mediterranean at times . The Miranda was on August 11, 2017 Godby Shipping to the FRS group belonging Cypriot sold Kekepania Shipping Company Limited and on January 9, 2018 Cádiz passed (Spain) to the new owner, who in Miramar Express renamed. The shipping company FRS Iberia then used the ship in liner service between Motril (Spain) and Tanger-Med ( Morocco ). The Miramar Express is currently operating for FRS Iberia between Algeciras (Spain) and Tanger-Med (as of April 2020). The Mistral came after a five year charter to P & O from January to the end of April 2020 for the shipping company Balearia between Huelva (Spain) and the Canary Islands are used.

The Pauline Russ (type 163a)

The ships have ice class E4 and were built in sectional construction, with the hull sections partly built in Poland . They have a total length of 153.45 m (142.80 m Lpp ) and a width of 20.60 m (23.60 m including bridge wing ). The height from the keel to the upper deck is 14.15 m, the maximum draft 7.00 m. The four ships of the basic type 163 were measured on delivery with 10,471  GT and around 7,440  dwt , the three of the sub-type 163a with 10,488 GT and around 7,250 dwt.

All ships in the series have two stern ramps with a width of 12.30 m and 4.00 m respectively. The 123 m long main deck can be loaded via the larger stern ramp , from which a drivable ramp leads into the 75.60 m long lower hold . The 5.00 m high main deck has an area of 1,878 m² and has 620  meters of gauge . The lower loading space is 4.60 m high and has an area of 967 m² with 315 lane meters. It is primarily intended for jamming paper. The hold and the main deck have a total volume of 14,599 m³ and are equipped with air drying and ventilation systems. The 2,878 m² upper deck with 690 lane meters can be accessed via the smaller stern ramp and a rigid ramp behind it. In addition to trailers, up to 303 20-foot standard containers (TEU) or 121 40-foot standard containers (FEU) plus 21 TEU can be stowed on board  .
