Lukas Mantel (born October 10, 1982 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss jazz musician ( drums , composition ).

Live and act

Mantel began playing the piano at the age of six; at the age of 16 he switched to drums. At the same time he was active as a DJ in hip-hop groups and produced music on the computer. He studied at the Lucerne School of Music with Pierre Favre , Norbert Pfammatter and Fabian Kuratli , from which he graduated in 2009. Since 2016 he has been studying classical carnatic music with S. Karthick, Umayalpuram Mali, Shree Sundarkumar and Luca Carangel on a pro helvetia scholarship .

Mantel has been part of Yves Theiler's trio since 2006 and has been part of Christy Doran's Sound Fountain since 2014 , with whom he has created several albums. In 2011 he took part in Suisse Diagonales Jazz with his World Jazz Quintet Quetzal . Since 2017 he has been leading his own sextet, with which he released his debut album in 2019 and performed at the Schaffhausen Jazz Festival. He also worked with Pierre Favre & The Drummers, Karoliina Kantelinen , the Lucerne Jazz Orchestra , Nat Su , Christoph Stiefel , Michael Bucher and Nicole Johänntgen . He is also active as an arranger and composer for other groups. He can also be heard on albums by Simon Wyrsch, Wolfgang Zwiauer, Ghost Town Trio, Tripmadame , Silvio Cadotsch , Buchers Organ Book , the Biel-Bienne Jazz And ImproOrchestra and the Paul Taylor Orchestra .
