Karsten Weihe (* 1967 ) is a German mathematician and computer scientist . He has been a professor at the Computer Science Department at TU Darmstadt since 2001 and represents the field of algorithms in research and teaching.

Live and act

Karsten Weihe studied mathematics with a minor in computer science at the TU Berlin from 1987–1992 . In the period 1992–1994 he received his doctorate in mathematics. In 1994 he switched to the algorithms and data structures working group at the University of Konstanz , where he completed his habilitation in 1998 . In 2000 he was appointed professor for discrete mathematics and optimization from the University of Bonn . Since 2001 he has been Professor of Algorithmics at the TU Darmstadt. From 2002–2011 he was dean of studies and chairman of the examination board, 2006–2011 dean and 2007–2011 director of the Center for Teacher Education at TU Darmstadt. In 2003–2004 he researched and taught as a full professor of software engineering at the University of Newcastle , New South Wales , Australia.

In his research, he is involved in the special research area MAKI of the DFG , the graduate college AIPHES of the DFG and the innovation alliance of TU Darmstadt and Deutsche Bahn AG .

In the field of e-learning , he is active on the one hand by creating and publishing thematic videos for basic IT courses, which are collected in the Algorithmik video library , and on the other hand by developing and using the Nabla learning platform for the automatic, random-based generation of exercises.

In the area of public discourse , he leads a long-term project based on well-founded decisions for the systematic analysis and processing of the logic of argumentation in controversial topics. In the meantime, the logic of the argument has already been processed in several dozen controversial topics, including unconditional basic income , options for dealing with the NPD and the quota for women .
