Kaspar Leonz Bruggisser (born February 1, 1807 in Wohlen ; † February 15, 1848 there ) was a Swiss lawyer and politician.

Life

Kaspar Leonz Bruggisser was born as the son of the businessman Anton Bruggisser. His cousin was Johann Peter Bruggisser , with whom he was actively involved on December 6, 1830 in the " Freiämtersturm ", which revolutionized the canton.

Kaspar Leonz Bruggisser was a student at the "Lehrverein", a kind of adult education center in Aarau , where he was taught by Ignaz Paul Vital Troxler and Heinrich Zschokke . From 1827 to 1829 he studied at Göttingen at the city's University Law and was on other German universities. There he also acquired the Dr. jur.

After returning to Wohlen, he was briefly aargau advocate and in 1830 took part in the "Freiämtersturm". In 1831 he was a member of the Aargau Constitutional Council and until 1846 a member of the Grand Council and represented his home canton four times as a member of the federal assembly . From 1835 to 1838 he exercised the office of district court president in Laufenburg . In the period from 1838 to 1841 he was editor of the Aargau civil code .

Kaspar Leonz Bruggisser was initially considered an ultra-radical politician who settled accounts with the powers of the past, the aristocrats, the Jesuits and the monasteries, and who campaigned for the unity and strength of the state; however, he changed from about 1837 to a moderate politician. He was one of the most active supporters of the regenerated canton of Aargau and went into the opposition because of Aargau politics on the monastery, Jesuit and Sonderbund issues; later he resigned from all state offices and was only active in his legal profession as an advocate until his death.

Kaspar Leonz Bruggisser married the daughter of Joseph Maria Brentano , district velvet man in Laufenburg.
