Kaspar von Grünigen

Kaspar von Grünigen (* 1982 in Meiringen ) is a Swiss jazz musician ( double bass , composition ).

Grünigen took cello lessons as a child . As a teenager he switched to the electric bass and later to the double bass. He began studying German and theater studies at the University of Bern and then studying jazz at the Basel Music Academy ; he spent a semester abroad at the Gothenburg University of Music .

First he played from 2004 in various pop bands of his brother Floh von Grünigen, in 2007 in the formation Box (album Bruch , with Niklaus Hurny , Fabian M. Müller , Christian Gschwend ); with Fabian M. Müller and Fabian Burgi he formed the FM Trio, with whom four albums were created between 2007 and 2016 (album Ligne Libre , 2009). He worked with Marco von Orelli in the early 2010s , on whose Hatology albums Close Ties on Hidden Lanes (2012) and Alluring Prospect (2015) he was involved. In 2015 he founded the Bottom Orchestra with musicians from Switzerland and Germany (including Almut Kühne , Benjamin Weidekamp , Uli Kempendorff , Marco von Orelli, Lukas Briggen ), for which he also composes. He also works with Müller in the Augur Ensemble ( Guest Room , 2018).

Grünigen heads the music school on the jazz campus of the Basel Music Academy .
