Abbot Castulus Wohlmuth

Kastulus Wohlmuth , also Castulus Wohlmuth (born October 19, 1748 in Landshut ; † August 23, 1802 ) was a Premonstratensian monk and from 1794 to 1802 abbot of the Neustift monastery near Freising .

Wohlmuth came from a family of bakers in Landshut , entered the Neustift monastery in 1766 and was ordained a priest in 1772. On July 8, 1794 he was elected abbot of the convent. As early as 1781, he was also a professor of mathematics and natural sciences at the University of Landshut and was considered an art lover.

During Wohlmuth's tenure, French troops invaded the Hofmark Neustift on July 6, 1800 and plundered the monastery. After his death (1802) no new abbot could be elected; the convent was dissolved in 1803 in the course of secularization .
