Katharina Schurz

Katharina Wilhelmine Prospera Schurz , married Mauch (born June 25, 1839 in Kierling , † October 3, 1906 in Weidling ), was an Austrian singer ( alto ).

Life

Katharina Schurz's parents were Theresia Anna Schurz, a sister of the poet Nikolaus Lenau , and the civil servant and writer Anton Schurz . Her father was a member of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna and Katharina Schurz received a vocal training. After the death of her father in 1859, she began a career as a professional stage singer with an alto voice. In 1867 she became a member of the Regensburg City Theater ensemble . She later performed in Salzburg, among others . Katharina Schurz married the engineer Johann Ferdinand Richard Mauch. Her son Richard Mauch , later a well-known painter, was born in 1874.

She last lived in Weidling near Vienna, where her father usually spent his summer vacation. In 1895 she transferred the grave of her uncle Nikolaus Lenau in the Weidlinger Friedhof to the Concordia press club for "protection and care for now and later times". She herself died in 1906 at the age of 67 and was also buried in the Weidlinger Friedhof.
