Nikolaus Britz

Nikolaus Britz (born November 7, 1919 in Kikinda , Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes ; † November 10, 1982 in Vienna , Austria ) was an Austrian university professor .

Life

Britz attended the private German teacher training institute in Neuwerbaß , where he received his teaching diploma. In the course of the expulsion of the Yugoslav Germans, he emigrated from Yugoslavia and settled in Austria. He studied history and literature at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate there. Later Britz was appointed professor at the Pedagogical Academy in Baden near Vienna.

Britz was the initiator, co-founder and general secretary of the International Lenau Society , the aim of which is to win over German scholars from countries in the West and the East for scientific collaboration in the field of literary research. Attention was drawn to the annual conferences and symposia held by Britz, which took place alternately in Austria, the Federal Republic of Germany, Hungary and Romania.

Britz published a few dozen biographical and bibliographical works on authors of German and non-German ethnicity, children's and school books, and educational writings. In his research, Britz dealt with works by Nikolaus Lenau , Adam Müller-Guttenbrunn , Adalbert Stifter , Hans Kaltneker , Theodor Kramer and Sándor Petőfi, among others . He founded the magazine Austrian Meeting and was editor of the magazine Lenau-Forum .

He was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .
